Daliya Upma

Daliya (Broken Wheat) upma is a nutritious healthy breakfast food loaded with fibers.You can cook it similar to upma and also add some veggies to make it as a one pot meal.
Spicy Dalia
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Dalia (broken wheat)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup peas
  • 1/4 cup carrots, chopped
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1 tsp garam masala(optional)
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 cup coriander, chopped
  • 3-4 curry leaves
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp Oil
Method:
  • Roast daia on medium flame till you get nice aroma and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan. As soon as the oil gets hot add mustard seeds.
  • When the seeds pop up add asafoetida, curry leaves and urad dal.
  • Add onions, green chillies and fry till golden brown. Now add  finely chopped carrots and peas and garam masala(optional). (You can add veggies of your choice such as potatoes, beans, soya nuggets etc) Saute it for a minute and then add 2 cups of water. 
  • Bring the water to boil so that the carrots and peas get cooked and then add the dalia and pinch of salt.
  • Cover it with lid and cook it on low flame for 7-8 minutes stirring in between to prevent from forming lumps and sticking at the bottom. (If cooking in pressure cooker take 4-5 whistles)
  • Dalia will be now soft and all the water will be evaporated.
  • Garnish it with coriander and sev (optional)
  • Dalia is ready to serve.
