Modak

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all !
Before going to work today i finished with my ganesh puja and wanted to take a day off to prepare some delicious food and modaks. I wanted to surprise my loving husband ;)
But could not do so...
The day at work passed by so slow and I could not wait to get back home to make modaks. I followed my mom's recipe to make these modaks. I miss being with family in India today :(
I miss the poojas at home, delicious modaks and also the shouts of "Ganapati Bappa Morya".

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup All purpose flour, Maida
  • 1/2 cup Sooji
  • 1 tbsp Ghee
  • Milk
  • Oil for deep frying
  • pinch of salt
Stuffing:
  • Shredded Coconut
  • Jaggery
  • Poppy seeds
  • Dry fruits
Method:
  • Mix maida and sooji in a bowl. Add pich of salt and ghee.
  • Add milk as needed and knead to a soft dough.
  • Cover the dough and let it sit for 15-20 min. Meanwhile we will start preparing the stuffing.
  • Roast the poppy seeds on a pan and keep aside.
  • In the same pan saute the shredded coconut till the coconut dries out.
  • Add jaggery to the coconut and mix well to form a uniform mixture.
  • Add dry fruits and cardamom powder to it.
  • Stuffing is ready.
  • Divide the dough into 10-12 small round balls.
  • Take a ball of  dough and roll it into a small round disk.
  • Add 1 tbsp of stuffing in it.
  • Gather the tips of the dough and join them with little milk.
  • Make all the modaks in similar way and cover them in damp cloth.
  • Heat oil and fry the modak until golden brown.
  • Modaks are ready to serve.
