Whole Green Moong Dal is a very easy to cook, nutritious healthy dal loaded with proteins. I make this daal in two different ways - cooking with onion-tomatoes or with ginger-coconut-coriander paste. Either way it tastes delicious. To make your meal more healthy have this dal with Bhakri.
Green Moong Dal |
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup green cup moong dal
- 1 tbsp ginger-cocunut-coriander paste
- 1-2 green chillies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp kaala masala
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- pinch of asafoetida
- pinch of salt
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup coriander leaves
- 1 tbsp Oil
Ginger-Coconut-Coriander Paste
- 1 " Ginger
- 1/4 cup shredded coconut
- 1/4 cup coriander
- Blend them together in a wet grinder until smooth paste
Method:
- Wash green moong dal thoroughly in water and soak in water for 2-3 hours.
- Pressure cook the soaked dal until 2 whistles or 7-8 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin and mustard seeds. Once the seeds crackle add pinch of asafoetida, finely choped green chillies and the ginger-coconut-coriander paste.
- Stir fry for few seconds or till the raw smell goes away.Add turmeric powder and red chilli powder.
- Mix well.
- Now add the pressure cooked green moong and kaala masala.Mix again till the daal get coated with all the spices
- Add salt and half cup of water depending on how thick daal you would like and bring it to boil or cook for 3-4 minutes on low flame.
- Add lemon juice and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve with roti or rice.
